Pay for Performance Summit: Overview

The year 2014 marks a turning point in U.S. health care -- the first-ever individual mandate to purchase coverage in the U.S., alongside the rollout of health insurance exchanges and expansion of many state Medicaid programs. As the Affordable Care Act reaches full implementation over the next several years, the number of covered Americans is projected to grow by millions. Will the care they receive be safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and patient-centered? Will it be affordable for the U.S. as a society over the long-term? Central to our ability to answer those questions -- and to ensure that they are answered in the affirmative -- is measuring, reporting, and rewarding performance. The 9th National P4P Summit offers a forum to engage in lively -- even provocative -- discussion of the issues, opportunities, and challenges facing the health care system in 2014.

Leaders from industry, government, and the non-profit sector will share best practices and lessons learned from grappling with real-world implementation issues related to performance measurement. We will learn from case studies of value based pay for performance, including design, implementation experiences, and results. We will hear from a wide array of programs, including those targeting different populations (commercial, Medicare, Medicaid), those using Triple Aim outcomes measures (e.g. total cost of care), and those involving innovative approaches to performancebased payment (e.g. shared savings). The Summit also provides an opportunity to obtain up-to-date information on policy issues relevant to performance measurement, including CMS value based purchasing and physician payment.

There will be ample opportunity for audience participation, questions and answers.

The conference has become a great opportunity to reconnect on an annual basis, and we will be delighted if you can join us.
